Dean Brian Konkol's Message to Parents

Greetings from Hendricks Chapel!

On behalf of the student leaders, chaplains, staff, and advisors of Hendricks Chapel, welcome to Syracuse University!

This is an important time as families and friends prepare for a monumental transition. We at Hendricks Chapel, as the spiritual “heart” of campus, embrace the sacred responsibility of ensuring that your student is fully welcomed on our campus. When students feel at home, they are more likely to flourish!

This year we anticipate thousands of student visits to Hendricks Chapel. From musical performances and public lectures, to thriving religious and spiritual communities, the chapel is a visible and vibrant setting for both gathering and sending. In addition to visiting our “People’s Place Café”, which is the only student-run coffee shop on campus, new students are also welcome to visit our Office of Engagement Programs, which connects socially-conscious students with the City of Syracuse, to spark and sustain campus and community leaders through mutual service, engaged learning and sustainable living. More information about the programs, services and people of Hendricks Chapel can be found here on our website:

Thank you for providing us the joy of journeying alongside your student. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at or 315.443.2901. We promise to do our part!

May you receive the fullness of health and hope, this day and always.

With gratitude,

The Rev. Brian E. Konkol, Ph.D.
Dean, Hendricks Chapel
Professor of Practice, Department of Religion
