Students Offering Services At Hendricks Chapel

Our Mission:

The Mission of Students Offering Service of Hendricks Chapel is to generate and enhance a commitment to service by all people - providing for a more caring, just and democratic university community and community at large.

Our Goals:

To broaden the learning experience of students, faculty, staff, and community members to encompass civic virtue by providing forums where volunteers can practically apply their skills, resources, time and energy, in a manner which aids others.

To facilitate communication about the historical context of social justice movements and how they intersect with current initiatives towards "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" for all people.

To empower and challenge student leaders to emerge and take responsibility for new or existing service projects and activities.

Our History:

Students Offering Service was founded in the fall of 1989. Since the organization's inception, it has grown and developed into a key entity within the Syracuse community by providing a vital link between the skills, talents and abilities of the SU / ESF academic community and the resources, challenges and needs of the Syracuse and global communities.

The organization's philosophy is founded upon a grassroots perspective: people working with people, assessing the needs of the community and working to create service projects "from the bottom up". The program is not affiliated with any specific religious organization, thus allowing volunteers to support people in need, inclusive of personal, social, and political orientations.
