Same-Sex couples are welcome at Hendricks Chapel for ceremonies of commitment. These ceremonies cannot be considered marriages because there is at present no provision in New York State law making same-sex unions legally binding.

Syracuse University claims diversity as one of its core values. In that spirit, Hendricks Chapel affirms the full range of diverse faiths and provides space for each of these traditions and their particular practices. Thus, it opens its doors to the blessings of relationships between gay and lesbian couples in accordance to those faith traditions that affirm such relationships and to those individual chaplains who, after sincere reflection, wish to officiate at ceremonies of commitment or marriages based on their assessment of the integrity of the relationship as it stands in connection to their particular faith tradition.

Each couple desiring to have a ceremony of commitment is invited to contact the scheduling secretary at Hendricks Chapel to select a time and determine arrangements.
