ABOUT LUTHERAN CAMPUS MINISTRY

Lutheran Campus Ministry, Syracuse (LCM) was begun in 1913 as a way for Lutheran students and their friends to gather for fellowship and support on the Syracuse University campus. Not much has changed. LCM continues to be an open community of worship, growth and support. As a part of the Hendricks Chapel community, it is one of nine chaplaincies with Pastor Lampe joining Roman Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Baptist, Episcopal, Prostestant, Evangelical and Historic African American counterparts to minister to the needs of the university community.

As an open community LCM offers a safe and welcoming environment where people regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or fatih tradition can come and explore their faith questions, growing in their understanding of God's unconditional love in Jesus Christ. LCM embraces the tradition of academic inquiry, working to discern what is good and true in an ever-changing world.

LCM encourages questions and does not attempt to dodge hard issues by hiding behind doctrine, tradition or history. Rather, scripture is engaged both in its own historical context as well as in the changing social experience and broadening academic inquiry.

As a Reconciling in Christ community we believe that through baptism all are claimed by God in Jesus Christ.

Lutheran Campus Ministry receives no funding from Syracuse University but instead relies upon the good will and support of Lutheran congregations, synods, districts, national bodies, families and friends to continue to be a partner in the the dialog about faith and life in the university community.
