Grief Resources

Service of Commemoration

Syracuse University held its fourth Service of Commemoration—honoring students, faculty, staff, retirees and trustees of Syracuse University and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) who passed during the period of Jan. 1, 2019, to the present—with a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, March 16, at 7 p.m. ET.

The service is inspired by the Remembrance Scholars’ motto of “Look Back, Act Forward,” a call to action to remember those we have lost and act forward in their memory.

We hope the 2021 Service of Commemoration nurtured the spirit and soul of our campus community and beyond.

Grief Support Series

“Honoring Life & Loss,” a grief support program from Hendricks Chapel, encourages courageous and vital conversations with the campus community about grief awareness and its impact as people navigate life and a pandemic.

The program is open to Syracuse University students, faculty and staff. Chaplain Rhonda Chester is the program facilitator. All sessions will take place from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Chapel hosts "A Community Service for Grief and Healing"

The University held a Virtual Community Service for Grief and Healing on Oct. 20. The service provided a time for the University community to embrace each other, name and claim its grief, remember the lives recently lost and connect with available resources in the midst of challenging times.
